Building a Participatory Risks Management Framework in Bobo-Dioulasso,
Burkina Faso
Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso, developed a Participatory Climate Risk Management Framework (PCRMF) with UN Habitat’s CCCI to address heat waves, droughts, floods, and land degradation. Through workshops with municipal officials, experts, and residents, the city identified risks, vulnerabilities, and adaptation measures, covering prevention, preparedness, response, recovery, and capacity-building. Outcomes include a municipal charter for ongoing climate dialogue and locally informed decision-making. The case shows that medium-sized cities can mainstream climate adaptation locally through participatory governance, even with limited resources.
