Period Tax in Greece: Advocacy Avenues towards government and corporate accountability
This paper explores the ways in which women’s rights are violated through the form of unfair taxation on period products. The paper depicts the landscape of period poverty advocacy in a global level, by enumerating the factors that were crucial in eliminating the period tax in other countries as well as the challenges that local actors faced during their advocacy efforts. Ultimately this thesis gives a strategy map to eliminate the tax, that is currently imposed on period products in Greece, which is 24% VAT. The strategy map is designed aiming not only for a legislative change but also for a change among social believes and values in the Greek society.
