- Each summer, the Hertog Global Strategy Initiative in the Department of History at Columbia University brings renowned experts and policy makers to Columbia University to deliver weekly public lectures and work with students in the program. The topic of the summer 2012 lecture series is "The History and Future of Religious Violence and Apocalyptic Movements." William J. Bratton is the chairman of Kroll, the world's leading risk management company, and former chief of the New York City and Los Angeles Police Departments. Zachary Tumin is special assistant to the director and faculty chair of the Science, Technology, and Public Policy Program at Harvard University's Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs.
