Mark C. Taylor, Chair of the Columbia University Department of Religion, discusses his proposals for reinventing higher education and research outlined in his recent book Crisis on Campus. Taylor argues that higher education is facing a financial, curricular and institutional crisis that will transform teaching, research and publication. If institutions are to remain viable and faculty members are to continue to be productive, they must be flexible enough to adapt to this rapidly changing educational environment. Lydia Liu, W. T. Tam Professor in the Humanities, responds. A question and answer session follows the presentation.
